Friday 21st May Choon

This weeks Friday Choon is by Pendulum. Why because I went to see them last night and they absolutely...flat out...rocked! I love Pendulum because they are really timeless, they have invented their own genre of music - heavy metal drum and bass with a wee bit of pop.

Genre creation aside they are just amazing live and sound amazing recorded... Turn up your speakers and jump around to this: Pendulum - SLAM .... BTW The video is a bit grim but funny.

Friday 14th May Friday Choon

Ok this one is fresher than a pair of white nike trainers straight out of the box that was vacumn packed and stored in a summer meadow.

This guy James Blake is a 22 year old music student and is attendign the same school that Blur went to. I think this choon from his forthcoming CMYK ep is cool as. Check it out and watch out for future stuff. I reckon we can expect some nice RMX's from him. BTW he is not a 70's tennis icon...that's another James Blake.

Friday Choon 30th April

This Choon is the biggest Choon since Time Deluxe's it just won't do. It got played on the radio a bit but I think it will be proper huge thropughout this summer. The Crookers have mixed i tup and made it a little bit more nasty but the original is priceless.

Dennis Ferrer's - Hey Hey

and just for some extra bonus fun here is Tim Deluxe's seminal classic it just won't do.

I never ever thought I would like a choon that Norah jones featured on but then Q-Tip can really make anythign sound good. their new album is defo a return to form. This weeks Choon is Q-Tip feat. Norah Jones- "Life Is Better"

Totally unrelated, check out a new band I am helping to manage called Battle for 2nd Place

Friday Choon 19th March

I'm not afraid to say it...this weeks Friday Choon is a shamless plug for an upcoming FLASH MOB called the ''Battle for Second Place, Easter Egg and Spoon Race'' which is actually a plug for ''Battle for Second Place '' ahead of the release of their debut single. They are planning the FLASH MOB to raise awareness of the band who's mission is to become the second best band in the world. If you want to get involved witht he FLASH MOB then go here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=app_2344061033&gid=292049686251#!/event.php?eid=370830554115

So with all this in mind....what is the choice for thsi weeks Choon...

Friday Choon 5th March 2010

This weeks Friday Choon is from way back, well a few years anyway... about 1000 years in Dance music.....since getting my new iPhone I've not actually got round to filling it with new music so I'm digging through old CD's to listen to in the car. This morning I picked up the Chemical Brothers Surrender complete with suspicously stained cover and of course broken hinges on the box. As I was powering through the Scottish countryside on the way to work this morning I found myself gradually turning up the volume on the stereo and getting a little faster until I was probably going a little too fast.

This weeks Friday Choon is from the legendary Chemical Brothers with the epic yet, relatively unheard of, Sunshine Underground.....this choon brings back memories of summer festivals and specifically T in the park before it got too huge.....

Friday Choon 26th February

Ok this song has featued before but last time it was a remix of the original artist. This one is a completely new verison by an artist called Hawa. The track is of course Justice's legendary D.A.N.C.E. This version is a kind of chilled out easy listening version which I like because I feel like Friday Choon's have been a wee bit too banging recently

check this out and ....chill

Friday Choon 19th February

If this choon was a fictional TV New presenter it would be Rob Burgundy....it's kind of a big deal

Yes the moment I heard this choon I just loved it. I like vocal choons and I like remixes of popular classics and I love soul music and I love dance music....this one has it all it's the big dawg!

It's also the reason why the next Friday Choon mix is not ready....I started it a couple of times with this choon but once I played it I couldn't think where to go from there, it was all over! A fine piece of music.

Enjoy this and in the meantime I'm gonna work on that mix with some lesser choons!

It's only a remix of the Ray Charles/Kanye West Gold digger Choon by the legendary Diplo of Switch and Diplo AKA Major Lazer fame.

Friday Choon 12th February

This week is a return to banging electro music just because I feel in that kind of annoy your parents type music mood. It's by Dirty Disco Youth and has been remixed by F8$ck Off so I think from the name alone you understand it's gonna be nasty.

also worht mentioning that the Friday Choon Facebook group is now line join up at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=292049686251

Friday Choon 5th February 2010

Ok this weeks Friday Choon is something I discovered from the Deep House Cat podcast and tracked down the choon. I managed to buy it on beatport so I have the whole thing to myself but unfortunately I can't find it on Youtube or anywhere else to stream on-line.....or so I thought.....I found a 2 minute clip of Ricardo Villalobos playing some tiny stage...I think somewhere in Spain....and guess what he's playing....yeah that's right... this weeks Friday Choon!

Now you won't hear the vocal in the clip below for Slow Swing by Inverse Cinematics but it goes like this, ''slow swing to actual double time 8:2'' now I'm not a muso in the technical sense of the word but the beats in this choon sound like a wee bit bit of a wacky time signature but what is actual double time 8:2.... I can still mix in and out of this like 4:4 time.....hmmm....someone needs to clear this up!

Anyway I'm done beardstroking...this ones a real choon..enjoy!

Oh meant to say....I'm going to flip this choon in it's entirety in to a mix with some other stuff like it....so watch out for a Friday Choon mix to download shortly

Friday Choon - Friday 29th

I think that once you get to a certain age people tend to get less in to really banging music, noisy and hard music. Well Friday Choon is not about following the crowds or trends so here is a really insane noisy banging Friday Choon....this would be best cranked up to 11 on your headphones but be warned it's like thrash metal without the guitars until it gets going and more funky.

In some ways it reminds me of the prodigy but a lot more unhinged.....I lke it!

Friday 15th Choon

Ok this week we've got a remix of Delphic's choon Doubt by one of my favourites RITON.

Apparently Delphic are gonna be Hooj and I can believe it because a lot of their stuff I've heard is pretty cool. I've searched long and hard to find this weeks Choon because it's been taken down form youtube but I managed to find it on a Spanish site.

It's got a kind of electro pop-rock thing going on but it sounds kind of old detroity with the string hits going on the background and the weird vocal sample going round and round.... I like it

Friday 8th of Janaury Choon

OK Friday Choon is back after an extended break....I think it's only fair that Friday Choon can take credit for getting RATM to Christmas number one afterall we did have a youtube video about it.....so thanks for you support :)

This weeks Choon is by one of my favourite artists of 2009 - Crazy P. Crazy P were formally called Crazy Penis and are in my opinion one of the top artists on the legendary 2020vision recordings label. Their music is a blend of disco/electro and house all in the right parts. Check it out below

Friday Choon also went in the mix over the holidays and put together a mix with some of the top non-Friday choons from 2009. You can download this mix here which does contain a slightly more housey mix of Crazy P's Caught Up......... download the Inn@theDeep mix here http://www.mediafire.com/?tzymyndnhgx
